Developing and launching our new Sweatshirt marks a huge milestone in our company’s brief history. Why? Because we’ve always told you and ourselves that we’d only venture into new product categories when we felt we were unequivocally expert at making T-Shirts.
This year our skilled seamstresses will have sewn over 100,000 custom-fitted T-Shirts for our customers. We’ve come a long way since crowdfunding our first batch of T-Shirts in 2014.
Our technology, sizing process and production capabilities have improved to the point where we’re comfortable introducing new categories. So now we’re accumulating all our expertise from our core product –– which will always be, quite literally, the closest to our hearts –– and broadening our product offering. The launch of the custom-fitted sweatshirt is, in many ways, the accumulation of four years of T-Shirt expertise; we added cotton fleece, long sleeves and lots and lots of care in developing it.
In short, we’re going from custom T-Shirt makers to custom clothing makers.
"In addition to expanding our catalogue, we have been working quietly and diligently to refine our Ideal Size algorithm"
In addition to expanding our catalogue, we have been working quietly and diligently to refine our Ideal Size algorithm.
We call it Ideal Size 2.0. Like its predecessor, it is designed to let you find your perfect custom size –– whether you’re shopping for T-Shirts, Polos or Sweatshirts –– in less than 30 seconds. That’s quicker than finding the right movie to watch on Netflix and pressing play. The ingredients in Ideal Size 2.0 are fresh. Four years of pattern creation knowledge, millions of data points and a brand new technological backbone have led to 300 micro improvements to the algorithm designed to produce an even more accurate custom fit.
So why should you care about our technology?
For starters, a better and more flexible infrastructure allows us to introduce you to new products in our portfolio such as the sweatshirt. It lets our pattern making team quickly address any issues that you may have with isolated aspects of our products. And, perhaps even more beneficial to you, it helps reduce our production and delivery time down to 10 days.
A faster route from ordering to delivery is something our customers have requested for a long time. Our new setup, gradually introduced throughout 2018, has let us identify the best suppliers, seamstresses and transportation partners –– measured both on speed and quality. It is all a part of our plan to rewrite the rules of fashion.

You might be asking why introducing new product categories is tricky. After all, isn’t that what a clothing company does?
Everything we make is intensely curated, from the farms we source our materials from to the factories in which the custom fit is sewn. There are no off-the-shelf products; we create everything from the bottom because that makes for a better product that we can fully vouch for.
The wool T-Shirt, which we introduced in late 2017, took the better part of a year before we had found the right, ethically-sourced wool; the right fabric treatment to make it more adaptable to everyday life –– for example the ability to wash it with your normal laundry –– and the right fit. For instance, we learned to account for the fact that wool stretches a little bit with wears and washes.
We also launched the longsleeved cotton T-Shirts. That meant a whole new integration into our Ideal Size algorithm because we now had to take into account wrist width and arm length to create a custom fit that’s right for everyone.
The pique polo was our first slight departure from our true core product. It came with its own set of challenges before we were comfortable that we had made the perfect polo.
"The next logical step was always going to be the sweatshirt. Our first second layer. It ties in with our T-Shirt expertise; the sewing processes are similar and the fabric is only slightly different"
The next logical step was always going to be the sweatshirt. Our first second layer. It ties in with our T-Shirt expertise; the sewing processes are similar and the fabric is only slightly different. What we’ve created is a sweatshirt that’s not too bulky, not too light or too heavy, and with the right color density.
We are really excited for you to try it and let us know what you think your custom fit. Read more about the sweatshirt here
