Meet designer Filippo Andrighetto
The second part of our fall/winter collection continues the studied world of texture, form, and light. For the set, we invited Filippo Andrighetto, one of the local designers we collaborated with at the last shoot, to join us again. Sleek metal meets the warmth of wood, made by skilled artisans in his Northern Italian hometown – setting the scene for clean silhouettes in luxurious fibers like Cashmere and Merino wool.
“We both share a philosophy of simplicity, but still being very elegant.”
Like Son of a Tailor’s, Filippo’s work is strongly driven by materials. His design philosophy revolves around the concept of soft futurism, in which the timeless allure of tradition and more future-oriented aesthetics converge. It was this approach that struck a chord with us, mirroring the way Son of a Tailor marries the storied history of tailoring with future-forward thinking and a timeless design language.
By contrasting raw metal or stone with softer materials like wood or natural fabrics, Filippo creates a dynamic interplay that celebrates both industrial elements and organic warmth. Each piece is crafted with a focus on durability and tactility, showcasing the inherent beauty and integrity of its materials. He puts a lot of emphasis on creating pieces made to be lived with, that age with grace.
An architect by trade, it was Copenhagen’s vibrant design scene that sparked Filippo’s interest in designing furniture alongside his career as an architect.
“My inspiration comes from architecture, but also the simplicity of nature,” he tells us. “I was educated as an architect. So my design journey follows that of architecture – you basically want to create this perfect triangle of structure, beauty, and function. That's what I was taught in university. A good architecture should be first structure, like it can stand, then function, and then if they are aligned, you reach beauty.”
After running his own architecture studio back home in Italy, he felt ready for a new challenge and relocated to Copenhagen in summer 2023, just when 3 Days of Design, Copenhagen’s annual design festival, unfolded. The Danish capital was steeped in shapes, materials, and a general enthusiasm for all things design – an enthusiasm that quickly caught on.
“I was immediately attracted by the idea of keeping the materials very raw.”
This laid the foundation for his philosophy of soft futurism, and Filippo didn’t hold back. Giving in to this newfound inspiration, he quickly designed his first two pieces, a bookcase and a wooden table. And he decided to apply for the new talent edition of Milan’s prestigious design fair, Salone del Mobile. But for the application, he needed a third piece.
“I was pushed to produce it fast. And we needed a piece of furniture for our apartment. So I designed a console for the empty wall in the living room. That's also why the measurements fit so perfectly,” he smiles. “This third piece allowed me to send the application. And I was selected. So around those three pieces, I created seven more for the 2024 edition of Salone del Mobile.”
From his initial step into the world of design to exhibiting at one of the world’s most highly regarded design events in less than a year, Filippo’s journey is marked by an impressive drive while staying committed to quality and craftsmanship – values that stand out in a world often shaped by disposability.
Growing up in a small town in Italy’s Veneto region, Filippo has always been surrounded by craft. The area is particularly famous for furniture making, making it an easy choice to get his pieces made back home, building on existing relationships and doing his part to carry this tradition forward.
“The part of the process that's my favorite is when I go to the carpenter’s workshop in Italy,” he reflects. “We have this long meeting: can we do that? Is it possible? How can we improve this design? I love sitting there all day and working with him, making rudimentary prototypes, seeing it done like in real life.”
